Saturday Sketch Club

Well, I was bound and determined to do a full landscape drawing. We ended up going to a flower stand at the local Hy-Vee store! A watercolorist's candy store.

But I still managed to do a full scene instead of picking out just a flower to two. I also managed to forget the power of the sun, forgot sunscreen and got my first burn of the year!

A book I've been reading recommended using 500 Series Bristol Plate Finish paper and chisel-edged pencils for broad strokes. This allows quick sketches and value studies. So pretty gutsy on my part, I used the Plate paper.....and here is my result....

This is a beautiful drawing! How do you like the plate paper? Is it difficult to use?

Thanks Bonny! I've tried the plate finish before and didn't care for it. But perhaps in this situation it might work well. It seems that I could get the 3-4 value variations very easily, using 2H, H and 4B. That is a good attribution when the intent is to capture the values and not necessarily the detail or textures.

I will have to work with it more before I know for sure!!
